Piano, Appliance and Single-Item Movers in Waterloo

A single heavy item is a whole job in itself. The risk is not the drive; it is the four steps at the front door and the turn at the top of the stairs.

Not every move is a whole household. Sometimes it is one thing: a piano going to a daughter's house in Kitchener, a fridge bought secondhand in Elmira, a treadmill that has to come out of a Lakeshore basement, a safe going into a Vista Hills office, or the sofa from a marketplace listing that the seller will not help carry. The crew does these as stand-alone jobs, with a minimum charge and the right equipment.

Pianos

An upright piano is heavy, top-heavy and mostly cast iron and hardwood. It moves on a piano board and a purpose-built dolly, strapped, with three people on stairs and a plan for every step and turn. A grand piano comes apart: the lid, the lyre and the legs come off, the body is wrapped and tipped onto a skid, and it goes through the house on its side. Both need the route measured before the day. The question that decides everything is the path: front steps, a landing that turns, a doorway width, a basement with a low ceiling on the stairs. Send photos of the piano and of the route, including the outside steps at both ends, and the crew arrives with what it needs.

After a move, a piano needs time to settle in its new room before it is tuned. That is a piano technician's job, not the mover's.

Appliances

Fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, ranges and dishwashers are the most common single-item requests. Practical points:

• Fridges and freezers should be emptied and, ideally, defrosted and dried the day before. They are moved upright wherever possible.
• Front-load washers should have their shipping bolts reinstalled if you still have them; without them the drum can be damaged on the road.
• Water lines, drain hoses and dryer vents are disconnected as part of the job where it is a simple connection. Gas ranges and gas dryers are not disconnected by the mover; a licensed gas technician does that.
• Newer counter-depth and French-door fridges are often wider than the door of an older Beechwood or Mary-Allen kitchen. Doors come off the fridge, and sometimes off the house.

Safes, gym equipment and other heavy pieces

Gun safes and fire safes can weigh as much as a piano and have none of the handholds. Treadmills, rowers and squat racks are awkward more than heavy, and often have to be partly disassembled to get out of a basement. Hot tubs are quoted case by case, because access — a fence, a deck, a gate width — decides whether the job is possible with a crew or needs a crane, which is not what this line books. Large aquariums, pool tables and slate-bed games tables are specialist work and the crew will say so if it is outside what they do properly.

Moving one item inside the house

Sometimes the item is not leaving the address. A piano moving from the living room to the basement because the room is becoming an office. A treadmill coming up from the basement to a spare bedroom. A heavy dresser or a safe going up a flight of stairs after a renovation. These are labour jobs with no truck, priced by the hour with a minimum, and the crew brings the same boards, dollies and straps it would bring for a full move. The route inside the house is still measured first.

Marketplace pickups and deliveries

Buying a sofa, dining set or dresser secondhand and needing it collected from a house across the Region is a normal small job. Give the pickup address, the seller's availability and a photo of the piece and the route out of their house. The crew arrives, wraps it, loads it and delivers it into the room you want, and the seller does not need to lift anything.

Not included

Taking away the old appliance the new one replaces is junk removal, a different service; ask and you will be pointed the right way. Long-distance single-item shipping to another province is not something this line books.
