What pushes a Waterloo moving quote up
Stairs. The single biggest factor after volume. A third-floor walk-up in Northdale takes far longer to empty than a ground-floor unit with the same furniture. A split-level in Beechwood has four short flights where a bungalow has none.
Elevators that are not on service. An elevator booked and padded moves a condo fast. An elevator shared with residents, stopping at every floor, doubles the time. A building that will not release the elevator without a certificate of insurance and does not have one on file stops the move cold.
The walk from the door to the truck. A driveway is a few steps. A loading bay two floors down and across the garage, or a street where the truck has to park half a block away, adds minutes to every load.
Not being packed. A crew that arrives to open drawers and loose shelves is packing at moving-crew rates. Either pack completely or buy packing separately the day before.
Heavy and awkward pieces. Pianos, safes, treadmills, sectionals, a fridge that does not fit the door. Each one can change the crew size or the equipment.
Peak dates. The end of August in Waterloo is the busiest moving week of the year because of the universities. The first and last days of any month, the end of June and Saturdays are the next tier. A Tuesday in the middle of October is cheaper and easier to book.

Either way, ask for the quote in writing with the hourly rate, the crew size, the minimum, the travel allowance, what counts as waiting time, how materials are charged, what the deposit is and when it is refundable, and what the mover's liability for damage actually is. Comparing moving quotes
- Is the crew size stated? A low hourly rate for two people can cost more than a higher rate for three.
- Is travel time defined? Door to door, depot to depot, or a flat allowance.
- Are pads, dollies, wardrobe boxes and shrink wrap included, or extra?
- How is waiting time charged?
- What is the deposit, and is it refundable if you cancel with notice?
- Is there proof of liability insurance and current WSIB coverage? WSIB clearance can be checked.
- Does the mover know the building? For a condo or student tower, ask.
Things that are not part of a moving quote
Hauling away what you are not taking is junk removal, a separate service with its own pricing. Storage between homes is not something the mover provides. Cleaning the old place is a cleaner's job. Long-distance moves to another province are priced by weight and distance under different rules and are not what this line books. The written quote lists what is included so none of this is a surprise.
